Tourist Visa Thailand

Tourism is a strong part of Thailand’s economy and the Kingdom welcomes tourist from all over the world to share its enormous range of attractions. While Thailand allows for Visa Exemption and Visa on Arrival categories, it is strongly recommended that you obtain a Tourist Visa for Thailand from a Thai Embassy or Consulate ahead of time. The processing time is quick, the cost is low and having the visa in your passport means that you will not be subject to the restrictions imposed on those obtaining a visa only after they arrive.

Documents required:

  • Passport or travel document with a validity of not less than 6 months
  • Visa application form (filled out)
  • One(1) recent 4x6cm. photograph of the applicant
  • Roundtrip air ticket or e-ticket (paid in full)
  • Proof of financial means (20,000 baht per person/40,000 baht per family)

Remember – Consular officers are Thai government officials, with the absolute right to refuse a visa to anyone they choose.

They may also ask for additional documents at their own discretion, so make sure that your papers and documents are in order, and that you are polite.

Visa Fee: Typically US $ 30.00 per entry or equivalent – price subject to change without notice, so contact the nearest Thai embassy or consulate in your area.

The validity of the Visa/Period of Stay is 3 to 6 months, depending on the number of entries you make across the land border, or from the airport. If you arrived on Thailand through an international airport, you will be stamped a 30 or 60-day permission of stay depending whether your country made a bilateral agreement on tourist visa exemption with Thailand.

If you enter Thailand via land border, you will be stamped a 15-day permission of stay as a tourist in the immigration post, after which you will have to exit the country again on or before the expiration of your permission of stay. However, the tourist visa can also be extended if you wish or need to stay longer in Thailand. You will have to file an application for an extension of stay at the Office of Immigration Bureau, which has recently relocated out of its old downtown Soi Suan Phlu address to:

Government Center Chaengwattana
Building B , No. 120 , Moo 3 , Chaengwattana Road ,
Tungsonghong Sub-District , Laksi District, Bangkok 10210
Tel : 0-2141-9889 , Fax : 0-2143-8228
